Level 1 participants receive a Raffy Learns to Swim full-color booklet that reinforces learning and provides parents with additional information about their child's progress.
Water Safety Presentations Four presentations options provide safety tips for a large variety of aquatic environments. Taught in a classroom setting. Target Audience: Swimmers and non-swimmers, parents, youth organizations, camp leaders. Course Length: 2-5 Hours Water Safety Today (2 Hours): teaches individuals how to recognize, prevent, and to respond to emergencies in, on and around water. General Water Safety (30 minutes): provides individuals with an awareness of the importance of water safety training and key information on being safe in, on and around water. Home Pool Safety (30 minutes): provides information for home pool and apartment pool owners on how to keep families, tenants and guests safe in an aquatic environment. Parent Orientation to Swimming Lessons (30 minutes): an orientation for parents about American Red Cross swimming lessons offered at local aquatic facilities. Longfellow's Whales Tales Longfellow's WHALE Tales is targeted to children ages 5 to 12 to teach safe behavior in, on and around the water. The materials in the Longfellow's WHALE Tales K-6 Educational Packet are designed to give children an awareness of the importance of safety around the water and to help promote healthful aquatic recreation. WHALE Tales is a popular program in many local elementary schools and child-care facilities. Target Audience: Grades K-6. Course Length: Varies Ideal for facilities with traditional pools. Professionalism, surveillance, victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries. Target Audience: Age 15 years and older. Course Length: 31.25 Hours Ideal for waterpark environments, multi-attraction facilities and traditional pools. Surveillance issues, recommended rules and spinal injury management for waterpark attractions. Target Audience: Age 15 years and older. Course Length: 33.25 Ideal for facilities with shallow water attractions up to 4 feet deep such as catch basins at the foot of slides, winding rivers and kiddie pools. Teaches surveillance, victim recognition, equipment -based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries. Target Audience: Age 15 years and older. Course Length: 30.5 Basic Water Rescue Basic Water Rescue is a 4-hour certification course that is targeted to public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors, aquatic therapists and others who work around water (it does not substitute for a Lifeguarding course). The course provides individuals the information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. It also prepares individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. Guardstart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow Lessons to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to succeed in lifegaurd training and enhance effectiveness on the job as a lifeguard. Hours vary according to need. Target Audience: Age 11 to 14 years. Course Length: Varies Aquatic Examiner Service Evaluates a facility's safety procedures and lifeguard operations. Choose from on-site evaluations and lifeguard training support. Target Audience: Aquatic facility directors/management. The goal is to reduce aquatic injuries by assisting lifeguards and managers to develop their own procedures to prevent and minimize the effects of accidents, recognize hazards, and respond effectively to emergencies. First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lay Responder Instructor Teaches instructor candidates to plan, organize and conduct Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED course, including First Aid/CPR/AED for the workplace, First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and the Community, First Aid- Responding to Emergencies, Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED and sport Safety Training. Course Lenght: 17 hours Target Audience: Individuals 16 years and older who possess a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training authorization, pass each section of the precourse written exam with a score of at least 80 percent, and demonstrate competence in the skills evaluation. Course Length: 24 Hours Lifeguarding Instructor Trains instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training (include First Aid), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Management, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Bloodborne Pathogens Training and Basic Water Rescue. Target Audience: Individuals 17 years and older who possess a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training authorization, pass each section of the precourse written exam with a score of at least 80 percent, and demonstration competence in the skills evaluation. Water Safety Instructor Provides candidates with the training they need to plan and conduct courses within the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. Covers teaching progressions, course and lesson planning, recognizing common skill errors, providing corrective feedback, motor learning and hydrodynamic principles.
