Fact Sheet: Water Safety Instructor

Purpose
Train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue course, six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics
Prerequisites
-
Be 16 years of age on or before the last day of class.
- Demonstrate proficiency in swimming skills including 25 yards of front crawl; 25 yards of back crawl; 25 yards of breaststroke; 25 yards of elementary backstroke; 25 yards of sidestroke and 15 yards of butterfly

Tread water for 1 minute

Maintain position on back for one minute in deep water either floating or sculling

The American Red Cross is pleased to announce another tool to help South Florida families stay safe while enjoying the summer! To help families learn the information they need in an easy to access format, the Red Cross released Home Pool Essentials™: Maintenance and Safety. The American Red Cross and the National Swimming Pool Foundation collaborated on the development of the program, which continues the Red Cross tradition of teaching people to be safer in, on and around water.
